Mission to Reduce Deaths by Drowning. The United States has suffered a critical shortage of certified lifeguards and swim instructors for decades. As a result many aquatic facilities go unsupervised by lifeguards and a frightening percentage of our population doesn’t even learn to swim well enough to save their own life in an aquatic emergency. As a result, we suffer nearly 5,000 drowning deaths per year nationwide.
All 195 countries around the globe suffer unacceptably high drowning rates. Many countries lose even more lives per year than the United States. The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) estimates that worldwide nearly 250,000 people per year die from drowning. The total annual loss of life from drowning is akin to the loss of life from a world war. This enormous loss of life is even more tragic when we consider that nearly all drowning deaths are preventable.
We believe that the principle reason for this preventable loss of life is due to the lack of convenient, available, and affordable public safety training. That’s right, if we train more lifeguards to protect more aquatic facilities, and teach more people to swim well enough to save their own life, we could save a quarter million lives a year!
