Step 1: Register by submitting the form on our registration page.
Start by registering for your course on our registration page. Fill out the form, and you're ready to begin the process.
Step 2: Purchase our home-study course.
After registering, you will receive payment instructions at the email address you provided (be sure to check both your inbox and spam folder). Follow the instructions in the email to purchase your online Home-Study Course.
Step 3: Login & begin your course.
Once your payment for the Home-Study course is received, we will send you an email with your authorized username and password under the subject line ‘Start Your Course’. Log in and begin your training.
Step 4: Complete the home-study course.
Work through the course at your own pace in the comfort of your home. You can stop and start the course as needed, except when taking a timed exam.
Step 5: Schedule your instructor-led training class.
You must complete all the requirements of the Home-Study course before scheduling your Instructor-Led Training class. After completing the course, contact your instructor or Lifeguard-Pro.org to arrange your training.
Step 6: Pay for your instructor-led training class.
Pay your local instructor directly for the Instructor-Led Training Class. Acceptable payment methods typically include:
- Cash
- Personal, Certified, or Business Check
- Money Order
- Bank Wire Transfer
- Electronic Payment Methods (Zelle, Venmo, Remitly, Revolut, Wise, Western Union, Apple Pay, Google Wallet)
Ask your instructor or Lifeguard-Pro for specific payment instructions.
Step 7: Attend your instructor-led training class.
At the Instructor-Led Training class, you must complete:
- All required physical skills, demonstrated no less than three times under the supervision of your instructor.
- Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid closed-book, instructor-proctored written final exam, achieving a correct score of 90% or higher.
Step 8: Complete the instructor-led training class.
After completing your training, both you and your instructor will fill out and sign the Certification Request Form (CRF). If you're under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the form as well. This form confirms you have successfully completed all course requirements.
Step 9: Request your certification card.
Upload your completed and signed CRF to your Lifeguard-Pro.org profile in the ‘Upload Certification Forms’ section. Then, either check the box titled ‘Issue my certification’ or notify your instructor that you've completed all course requirements.
Step 10: Receive your certification card.
Once all course requirements are met, you will receive a high-resolution digital image of your certification card via email, usually within 3 days. If you need your certification sooner, give us a call, and we’ll do our best to expedite the process.
The U.S. Department of Labor allows candidates to enroll in a Lifeguard certification course starting at 14.5 years old. A Lifeguard certification can be issued when the candidate turns 15 years or older.
Please note the following:
- 15-year-old Lifeguards must always work with another person who is at least 16 years old.
- A 15-year-old Lifeguard cannot work alone and must be paired with an older lifeguard for supervision.
These regulations are designed to ensure safety and proper supervision for younger Lifeguards as they gain experience in the field.
